Passion leaps to the fore in romantic ballet | Herald Sun

The Australian Ballet presented Kevin Jackson and Madeleine Eastoe in a classical Romeo & Juliet production with a twist.

Ballet stars Kevin Jackson and Madeleine Eastoe yesterday proved they have perfected the passion of Romeo & Juliet’s tragic young lovers during a preview of the Australian Ballet’s most anticipated show of the year.

They performed the famous balcony scene in Shakespeare’s timeless play ahead of tonight’s world premiere of the Graeme Murphy ballet at the State Theatre.

No words are exchanged in this intense and beautiful dance spectacular, which will be performed by the entire company, incorporating six major set changes and 300 costumes from fashion master Akira Isogawa.

The Australian Ballet 2012 Launch

The Australian Ballet launched a blockbuster program to celebrate its 2012 season, which also marks its 50th anniversary. They will present new works by three of Australia’s most acclaimed choreographers—Graeme Murphy, Gideon Obarzanek and Stephen Page—and a new production of its inaugural ballet, Swan Lake.

It has been 50 years since the sparkling gem of grace and culture began entertaining Australian audiences with plies and pointe shoes, and if the 2012 season launch is anything to go by, The Australian Ballet has no plans of slowing down.

In celebrating their golden anniversary, The Australian Ballet is poised to present an exciting new season of contemporary pieces while honoring the company’s rich history through the worlds’ most loved traditional ballets.via The Australian Ballet 2012 Launch.
